Nor Cal Fish Reports

Halloween weekend brings a mixed bag of possibilities. The fall trout season is being pushed with big plants at Collins Lake and Lake Amador. Cooler weather and a shot of rain has made Lewiston a trout hot spot. Plus striped bass on the Napa River and in the lower Delta near Antioch. Plus, rock cod fishing has been great out of every NorCal and Central Cal harbor. Don’t spook ‘em before you hook ‘em. Here are this week’s Best Bites:

LAKE AMADOR trout: Lake received 3,500 pounds of trout last Thursday and another plant is going in next week. Trout are being caught near the spillway where they were planted. Some are spreading out. Water temp is 70 degrees. (209) 274-4739

LEWISTON LAKE trout: Trout bite is very good. Large trout are being caught and a few browns have been landed. Rainbows between 2 and 5 pounds are being hooked. Frog Rock is a hot spot. Trolling Kastmasters or flashers/nightcrawlers get action. Trout are in the top 6 feet. Pine Cove Marina (530) 778-3878

LOS VAQUEROS trout/stripers: A 24.4 pound striped bass has taken the lead in the October striper derby. Last day of the derby is Saturday. Trout fishing has been very good. Plants totaling 5,000 pounds have gone in during October and the trout have been biting of late. Best shore prospects are in South Cove. Boaters go to Howden Cove. Limits are common. (925) 371-2628

NAPA RIVER striped bass: Striper bite is very good. Shore anglers use chunk bait or live bait. Trollers use white or chartreuse swim baits, plugs. There is action from town on down. Best action is near Kennedy Park to Brazos Bridge plus any sloughs with levee breaks. Not a lot of big fish but a lot of stripers in the 18 to 24 inch class. Sturgeon starting to emerge but finding bait is difficult. Sweeney’s Sports (707) 255-5544

ANTIOCH striped bass: Striper bite showing no sign of slowing. A lot of keepers in the 20 inch range are coming in from the pier. Some sturgeon are being caught from the pier. Salmon continue to be caught near Humphrey’s. Mostly jacks. Gotcha Bait & Tackle (925) 706-7400
