Biggest fish of the week highlighted

It’s not only big trout coming in recently, but catfish and bass are starting to make their presence felt in Northern California lakes. Soon we should also see larger salmon from outside the Golden Gate. Here is this week’s Big Fish Honor Roll:


Gatlin Hampton of Mountain Ranch caught a 13.5 pound catfish at New Melones while fishing with Power Eggs.


Sheial Zhzelberger caught a 17.1 pound cat at Lake Camanche at an undisclosed located and with a secret bait. Lake Camanche also produced some large trout. Dennis Moore caught a 12.41 pound trout from the South Shore Pond using green Power Bait. Chris King landed an 11.01 pound rainbow trolling near the dam with a Rapala. Ron Parker hooked an 8.76 pound trout at the pond. Bob Brown of Modesto landed a 7.94 pound trout trolling with a wedding ring near the dam.


Biggest fish at San Pablo Reservoir was a 10.9 pound bass caught by Kenneth Turturici.


Collins Lake aggressive planting program continues to pay dividends for anglers. Sal Cagliano of Dobbins caught the biggest trout of the week – a 6.12 pounder caught from a boat in Elmer’s Cove. Robert Murray caught a 9 pound catfish while trout fishing with Power Bait.


The mackinaw bite is on at Caples Lake. Biggest last week was a 9.5 pounder caught by Drew Meteer who was using a silver/blue Kastmaster near the public boat ramp.


Maddie Kent of Ferndale took a 6.56 pound trout with a Mepp’s Spinner at Lake Amador.


Stan Wong caught the biggest fish last week at Lake Chabot, a 9 pounder from Bass Cove.
Del Valle also produced a 9 pound trout. Paul Love of San Jose caught the fish with a Mice Tail at East Beach.


Largest trout at last weekend’s trout derby at Lake McSwain was an 8.49 pound rainbow caught by Isaac Ortiz of Hemet.


Bite has slowed at Pyramid Lake in Nevada while cutthroat are spawning, but Jim Green was able to land a 16.15 pounder at Pelican for big fish of the week honors.


Wind has plagued boaters at Los Vaqueros, but shore anglers haven’t been slowed. Biggest trout last week was a 10.21 pounder caught by Felix Kuntz III of Bethel Island, who was using a Power Egg/nightcrawler combo in Cowboy Cove. Anthony Lopez of San Jose caught an 8.26 pound rainbow from South Cove using Power Bait.
